A few years ago, my husband bought me a Nutri Ninja as a small pre-Mother’s Day gift while I was still pregnant. It was the perfect gift because our large blender didn’t really work anymore and this came with the perfect size cups to blend in. The smoothies I made were my breakfast most days since it was a quick way to get nutrients into my body without having to cook anything (I had a major aversion to cooking anything raw). Somewhere along the way I found green smoothies were my favorite and the most filling for me. Sugary sweet smoothies tend to crash my blood sugar 30 minutes after consumption, so the green smoothie route, with a mixture of fruits and vegetables, was my favorite.
I began to see all of those beautiful Instagram photos of smoothie bowls about a year ago and I finally tried my hand with a few. They all have different areas of focus depending on the ingredients, such as eliminating water retention, boosting metabolism, post workout protein recovery, etc. This one hits all of those bases with a healthy mix of fats, proteins, and energy boosting ingredients. Spinach will add iron, cocoa nibs add fiber and antioxidants, maca powder adds multiple vitamins (B, C, E, zinc, iron) and energy, avocado gives you the good fat your body needs, and banana adds sweetness and helps with digestion. Smoothie bowls only take a short amount of time, so instead of grabbing a bowl of cereal, try this out!
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 scoop Orgain Organic Protein powder vanilla
- 1/4 avocado
- 2 handfuls of spinach raw
- 1 teaspoon macaroot powder
- 1 teaspoon cocoa nibs
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1/4 cup ice cubes
- 1/4 cup granola
- 1/2 banana sliced
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon goji berries
- 1/4 cup blueberries
Add all ingredients for smoothie into a blender. Blend until smooth.
Top with suggested toppings or add your favorite fruit. Enjoy!
