…In the best kind of ways 🙂 Big news on the Trail Mix front…
Nate and I are engaged!!
We took our road trip up the East Coast to visit family and friends and made our way up to Newport, RI, where my parents live. Towards the end of our trip, Nate suggested we go on a picnic because throughout the course of our little adventure we had not had much time to ourselves(not to say we didn’t enjoy all of the time with family and friends). So, we grabbed some sandwiches and took them up to Purgatory, which is a chasm in the cliffs that overlook Second Beach. As we were about to leave, he got down on one knee and asked me 🙂 And there is the short version for you. Sorry, but I don’t care to spill my life’s details on this blog…let’s just keep the detailed things to food. 🙂 All you need to know is that I said “yes” and we are REALLY excited and REALLY happy!
Now that that is out of the way, I’m letting you know that this post will not have any recipes in it, but I did think I should share some photos of the our trip (food included!).
Our first stop was Cambridge, Maryland where Nate’s mom and stepdad, have a house right on the Choptank River. Let me tell you, this place has some of the most beautiful sunsets and scenery. It is a cozy and relaxing place where good company, good food, and thanks to Nate’s brother, good drinks are the norm. Now, I have been hearing about the crab cakes that Nate’s mom, Kim, makes and how I will never be able to eat another crab cake outside of hers, for about a year and half now….they. are. AMAZING. After picking my first crab, Kim created these little patties of heaven for us. Words can’t even do them justice, so I will show you photos.
Pictures can’t do them justice either.
So, after Maryland, we made our way on up to Philadelphia to visit Nate’s dad and his stepmom. With our last trip to Philly lasting only about 18 hours, we were beyond happy to be able to just relax and hang out with the family for a few days. I was also finally able to experience Philly, cheesesteak (or two), Italian market, and the Phillies game included. The Red Sox beat them at the game we went to….sorry I’m not sorry 🙂
One of the nights, Bill and Alice invited all of their good friends that have watched Nate grow up and had a nice little “get to know Katie” party for us. It was so nice to be able to meet all of the Philly people that have been such an important part of Nate’s life and get to know them a little bit. Minus a few fights over whether we were going to watch the College World Series (BACK TO BACK!) or the Phillies game, the party was fantastic!
During our last days in Philly, Bill and Alice were kind enough to take us out to this neat sculpture garden where we ate a fabulous French cuisine at a place called Rat’s. The atmosphere was whimsical and light and the food was DELICIOUS.
Then the time to head up to Rhode Island to visit with my family. Unfortunately, I didn’t take pictures of any of the food we ate because I honestly did not think about it. Oh well, other exciting things happened anyway 🙂 Here are just a few photos from Rhode Island…
