It is somewhat of an understatement to say that I love food. In fact, as soon as I am finished with a meal, I am almost always planning what the next will be (and apparently it runs in the family because my sister suffers from this same illness). Now because I have this unnatural obsession with eating, laying around all day isn’t really an option so alas, I must run. That is almost the best part about running. Almost.
I have always been an active person (minus that four year party some call college), but running was never really my thing. So naturally, my sister marries a triathlete who later opens a specialty running store and, BOOM, running was a part of the family. Bad news bears for this girl. Now that my sister was sucked into the lifestyle that I so dreaded and my college graduation was nearing, I knew it was only a matter of time until she asked me to come to the dark side. And I was right. Come March of 2009, I was officially signed up for my first half marathon. Just this ONE. No more. Just to say I did it. Right?
NOPE. Boy was I way off. Five half marathons, one trail 30k, and two sprint triathlons later, I thank her everyday for making me do that terrible, horrible, no good, very bad first half marathon. So, thanks Amy, you’re the best 🙂
But wait! Cue in Nate. I met him through my sister and brother-in-law and, yes, you guessed it, Nate is a runner as well. Damn. But he came bearing gifts… the holy grail of running…TRAIL running. When he signed me up for a trail half for my birthday and I did that first long run out there on the greenbelt, I was instantaneously addicted and madly in love. Best birthday present, ever!
We two trail runners live for those long mornings on the Greenbelt…and then all of the food we’re going to consume afterwards. Another good thing about Nate is the fact that he shares my love of food (minus the tomatoes) so, hooray! He also doesn’t mind that I absolutely love to cook. Lucky for us, I like to focus on cooking healthy (with some brownies thrown in here and there) and so here I am, wanting to create a blog about the things that I cook. I have been toying with the idea for awhile and I’m not sure why I feel compelled to share my food with others, because let’s get real, that doesn’t happen too often with me. But, whenever I cook, it feels like an accomplishment and I think that is why I enjoy it so much. In addition to my cooking, I also may add a few posts about my artwork as well. Maybe it will give me the drive to start painting/drawing again. So here it goes… enjoy 🙂
